The National
Cosmetology Association (NCA), the largest association of
salon professionals in the world, announces the second annual
National Beauty Salon Month to be held in October 2001. NCA
designed this all-industry event to recognize the achievements
of the salon professional and focus consumer attention on
the benefits of professional beauty services and products.
“NCA
believes that leaders show by example. Programs such as National
Beauty Salon Month demonstrate NCA’s commitment to the entire
industry not just our membership,” said NCA President Derl
Green. “Our primary goal is to help salons expand their service
and retail business. Our second goal, though no less important,
is to instill pride in their profession among all licensed
cosmetologists.”
National
Beauty Salon Month has the endorsement of The Cosmetology
Advancement Foundation (CAF), the all-industry organization
that promotes the salon profession. “Promoting salon growth
is critical to our industry’s continued success,” said Connie
Barrett, CAF President. “The CAF applauds NCA for leading
the way in making consumers more aware of the benefits of
professional hair and beauty care.”
As part
of the celebration of National Beauty Salon Month, NCA will
award scholarships for use towards a cosmetology career. Continuing
education funds will also be available to licensed cosmetologists
seeking advanced education.
“You Deserve A Beauty Day” Continues As Consumer Focus
At the
consumer level, the NCA will work through its state organizations
and local affiliates to promote “You Deserve A Beauty Day”
throughout the month of October. Declarations from state governors
and local mayors will be prepared. Ad slicks and press releases
are available through the NCA.
“October
marks the beginning of the busy holiday season, and it’s a
great time for NCA to promote the benefits of professional
beauty care,” noted Robert James, chairman of NCA’s membership
committee. “Our work with the Look Good, Feel Better cancer
patient program is also a natural tie-in. We intend to take
advantage of the heightened awareness our volunteers generate
during October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness activities.”
Sponsorship & Participation Opportunities Available
The
NCA encourages participation by all companies and associations
in National Beauty Salon Month. Salon professionals should
contact their local NCA affiliate or state organization for
ways in which they can participate.
Manufacturers,
distributors and other associations should contact NCA Executive
Director Gordon Miller at 312-673-5868 for sponsorship opportunities.
“Only
by working together,” concluded President Green “will we be
able to strengthen and grow our industry. We want to make
National Beauty Salon Month an event that belongs to the entire
industry.”
